I like to share with you some photos of the colorful buildings from Barstreet in Singapore, that I took on my last trip there, some months back. Besides from these beautiful buildings Barstreet also have some great places for eating and drinking - a cool place to visit!

My great old friend from Malaysia, Saiful, is currently visiting us here in Chiangmai. Besides from being an excellent architect he is also a great chef. This morning he took some time of to cook a Malaysian breakfast, Nasi Lamak, together with our Thai chef Nid. The breakfast is made up of: coconut boiled rice, marinated fried chicken (Saiful's family recipe), home-made pickles, samba dip and fried egg. Who wants to eat baked beans and host when you can have this from breakfast???

Last week Ginger joined Central Department-store's annual table top competition in Bangkok and we won!!! This was a great surprise as it was the first time we participited so the joy was extra large. The inspiration for our table was the colours and "sounds" of the African jungle and the concept was to mix and mach in-expensive melamine with "granny's" heritage porcelaine and crystal glasses. Entertaining friends should be FUN. I hope the photos will inspire you to throw a colorful dinner party at your place soon.

I had the great pleasure of visiting Tokyo recently. It is one of my absolute favored destinations in the world. Though I have been there several times I am always excited every time I touch down at Narita International Airport. It is this mixture of being so different and still so Western in many ways that make Tokyo a very unique destination. And of course coming from a Danish background I feel there are similarities between the Japanese and the Scandinavian approach to design. That is probably also why you see so many shops stocking up on Scandinavian designed products.

But when it comes to food it is rather different though like us Scandinavians the Japanese also tend to have a love for everything that can swim and I mean everything!

Anyway – on every trip I do try to find a small locale sushi restaurant – nothing fancy but should be full of “locale ordinary” people. That should be some kind of a guaranty that a dissent sushi is served.

This time was no exception – found a good place where a young sushi chef served me an excellent meal. And though he was young he had had to work 5 years in the back of the kitchen, before he was allowed to get any where near a customer.

I want to share some photos with you from my meal – so simple but because of the freshness of the raw materials so good! I had several types of fish: medium fatty tuna, bonito, fluke and red clam. A wonderful miso soup with clams and as an appetizer I was served what looked as very small marinated baby fish – with their small eyes staring at you – slightly odd but it tasted delicious’s.

Cant wait for my next trip to this amazing city!

Last weekend my friend Chat and I went to have lunch in one of our all time favored small restaurants serving authentic Northern Thai food and I mean really authentic!!!! Well, its hardly a restaurant – it is just a few tables in a small village outside Chiang Mai together with a very locale convenient store run by the lovely Ms Phasri. The food is simple but the taste is delicious.

On this occasion we ordered lab which is a kind of a locale fried “tartar” made from either buffalo, chicken or pork, nam prik pla which is a classic Thai condiment made from pickled fish. We also ordered gang kae which is a dried jungle carry with chicken. And as always it is served with a bowl of fresh vegetables – here cucumber, fresh slightly steamed bamboo, eggplant, long beans and cabbage.

It does not have to be fancy to be good!

My trip to Stockholm

On my recent trip to Europe I went to Stockholm for a few days. My first trip and I absolutely LOVED it – the beautiful harbor area, the small narrow streets around the royal palace and all the small trendy shops. And of course having a restaurant I enjoyed the fresh seafood – especially the salmon and crayfish. So watch out – you will soon see some Swedish inspired dishes on our menu. Bought a Swedish cooking book about cooking with salmon and together with my chef Aree, we are slowly working our way through it. Bon appétit!!!

The House & Kafe introduce new menu to welcome wet season
Coming to rainy season, Khun Nid, the chef of The House & Kafe has invented the new menu to welcome the rainy season, focusing on healthy food in this wet and stormy time of the year.
Starting with the first new menu, we would like to introduce our Open Chicken Burger Basil Mayonnaise, which full of protein to strengthen the body and its herbs, like basil, can help preventing a cold.
The second menu, Moroccan Spiced Beef is full of vitamin C from tomatoes and olive oil which can help relieve a cold.
The third menu, Kafe Coconut Cured Beef, Spicy Sauce, Herbs, is a local beef dish with fresh local herbs sprouting during the rainy season and hot spicy sauce that can increase the digestive fire.
Marinated Chicken with Caesar salad a western style healthy menu. Protein from chicken and cheese and vitamins and fibers from the salad can help you gain some strength.
